Mass shootings are a cultural problem gun control cannot fix (Video)

There is no doubt that mass killings are a tragic disaster.   No American would argue that rampages in a movie theater in Aurora or Columbine High School in Colorado, or especially an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, were anything less than heinous travesties.  Most recently, the mass shooting at the Navy Yard in DC only hits home how vulnerable we are even in high security areas.

The question now is how do we fix it?  Can we fix it?

In keeping with the Rahm Emanuel philosophy that “You don’t ever want a good crisis to go to waste,”  Barack Obama couldn’t wait until the victims of recent mass shootings were even laid to rest before he started pushing gun control measures.  This is the greatest threat to the freedom of the middle class and the poor in this country.

Guys like Obama will always send their kids to schools that have armed guards.  They can afford it.  They fly in privet jets, they have 12-foot brick walls around their houses, and they employ armed guards and serious security systems to protect their families.  The Obamas of America are not affected by the gun control laws they create.

It is not just the Government though.  It is the media as well.

New York’s Journal News, in all its Socialist, gun-hating wisdom, published the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in two New York counties.  Complete with interactive maps!

When a bad guy decides to break into a house, he weighs the Risk-to-Reward factors.  If he knows you don’t have a gun, he will choose your house first to bust through the door, rape your kids, and beat your spouse before taking whatever else he wants.  The Second Amendment is designed to allow us to defend ourselves.

As gun control proponents insist, the Second Amendment indeed provides for our self-defense and the ability to hunt for food, but those are not the most important reasons our Founders gave us for the Second Amendment.  The purpose of an inherent, un-infringeable right to bear arms is to keep the government in check — to make it more difficult for our country to become a dictatorship, “for your own good.”

Make no mistake, there are those in our government who believe they know what you need better than you do.  For example, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg changed the laws to allow himself three terms, over which he has taken control of the school system from an elected school board.  He knows you use too much salt and restricts it for your own good restricts it, along with large sodas and sugary drinks.  He hates to have guns in the hands of regular people, but likes it when his bodyguards carry automatic weapons.

For all you Frank Zappa freaks who used to sing the song, “It Can’t Happen Here,” just remember that before there was Nazism, there were gun confiscations.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has totally banned the commercial sale of firearms and ammunition to civilians.  If Hugo likes the gun ban, it must be good for the people, right?  From 1915 until today, there have been no less than nine dictatorships that started with gun control.  These dictatorships have been responsible for the extermination of more than 60 million citizens.

As a senator, Barack Obama criticized our U.S. Constitution as a negative set of rules to restrict government without dictating government’s responsibilities in providing for The People, and he was right.  Our Constitution and Bill of Rights were written explicitly for the reason of insuring the rights of the individual.

The United States of America is not a democracy, but a constitutional republic.  In the words of founding father Benjamin Franklin, Gentlemen, we have given you a constitutional republic, if you can keep it.”  (1776)

Republic vs. Democracy

As we speak, there are those who are proposing to put veterans who have experienced what is liberally called PTSD on the criminal watch list, which will prevent them from owning a gun.  There is more.  Now the debate includes the thought that veterans who are found to have financial problems will be placed on this list as well.

We all have a problem with mass killings, no doubt, but the solution is certainly not to attack our 2nd amendment rights.  On the same day of the Connecticut killing, 10 people were also murdered with guns in Chicago, a city with strict gun laws.  In the media frenzy to sensationalize the elementary school rampage, the media neglected to question The Left about the practical application of gun control.

Aurora’s strict gun laws didn’t prevent the theater shooting, but if one law-abiding moviegoer had been carrying a pistol that night, the shooter would have been dead in 1 /10th the time it took him to do his deed.

The president memorialized those affected by mass killing at the Washington Navy Yard at the same time using a good crisis to politicize gun control.  The truth is that this damage could have been minimized or totally prevented had President Clinton not banned soldiers from carrying arms on the base in 1993.  This edict also cost numerous lives at the hand of Maj. Nidal Hassan in Fort Hood, Texas.

All these mass shootings have been perpetrated against helpless individuals with the killer taking his sweet time.  Nobody wants to address the real problem that drove these insane people to kill in the first place.

Let’s look at a few possible factors that could help prevent future mass killings:

  • Hollywood glamorizing a guy walking around killing everything that walks, with no remorse, could be having an effect on the minds of some.
  • Nobody wants to chastise a billion-dollar industry that creates role playing in violent video games that can tip the balance of some individuals. What effect does it have on borderline individuals when the character in the video is transposed to the live individual and that character is a natural born killer?  Or when after a year of building up that character, he dies in the game world.
  • Dysfunctional families where there are no paternal examples or where the paternal example is horrible.
  • Moral decay of American society where schools teach children about anal penetration and the application of condoms or where the acceptance of drugs and “Bobby has two fathers” is the new norm.  A major problem with this country is the breakdown of the family, when parents prefer to stick a kid in front of a TV instead of raising the child.

Nobody wants to admit that gun control may have been the reason for the location and severity of these mass murders. Until we address the root problem with this country, we will continue to allow those bent on domination to warp the truth, distort our thoughts, and ultimately contort our laws to the point where freedom is a word with little or no meaning and security, along with every other aspect of our lives, will be the responsibility of the federal government.

At one point America was born from a great desire for freedom.  There is no place left on Earth to go.

The last bastion of freedom
